It might be hard to recognize it with the snow falling, but today is the first day of spring and a sure sign that the season has sprung is that Cos Cob Park will officially open next week.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Thursday, March 26, at 1 p.m. at the park, which is located at 22 Sound Shore Drive. It was originally hoped that the ribbon cutting and official dedication would take place at the beginning of the month but the harsh winter forced the delay and all involved are hoping for good weather for this event.
First Selectman Peter Tesei is expected to be on hand along with Department of Public Works and Department of Parks and Recreation employees. The park has been in the works for years and the new use for the former site of the Cos Cob Power Plant is about to become a reality.
The park is right by the waterfront and tours will be given of it after the ribbon cutting.
The park will be the site of the new Sept. 11 memorial later this year.
